The Hong Kong Museum of Art is one of Hong Kong's largest museums and it boasts one of the best collections of Chinese art and artifacts. It transports you to China's glorious past, when art and culture held sway.

The massive collection of the museum includes oil paintings, drawings and etchings, as well as lithographs of old Hong Kong. There are seven exhibition galleries displaying Chinese antiquities, Chinese fine arts, historical pictures and contemporary Hong Kong art. Two special exhibition galleries show international art collections. Also on display is the famous Xubaizhai collection of Chinese painting and calligraphy. This museum came into being in 1962, and was initially housed in the City Hall. It moved to its present premises in 1991.

Promoting art among the general public is one of the museum's main objectives and a wide range of educational programs are organized in support of the exhibitions to enhance participants' knowledge of and interest in artistic creation.
