It was once a fort, strong and formidable, dreaded by the enemy. It stood as a powerful symbol of coastal defense. Today it is a historical museum which showcases 600 years of military history. This fort has also been the scene of a pitched battle during the battle for Hong Kong in 1941.

It also witnessed heavy bombardment when the Japanese invaded in 1941. Now the fort houses a museum, showcasing the local history of coastal defense from the Ming dynasty to the present. The Redoubt, once the core military structure of the fort, has been renovated to house the main exhibition with the theme '600 Years of Hong Kong's Coastal Defense'. In addition, you can see restored gun emplacements, underground magazines, a torpedo station and spectacular views of Victoria Harbor.

The weapons of ancient China are also showcased here. Visitors can see crude bronze weapons and some artifacts about pre Han china. This museum is located in Shau Kei Wan and sprawls over a massive area of 34,200 square meter. Admission: Adults HKD 10; concession (children & seniors) HKD 5. Free on Wednesday.

Opening Hours : 10a.m. to 5p.m. daily (Last admission 4:30p.m.)
Closed on Thursdays and the first two days of the Lunar New Year.
